Astronomers have recorded the presence of water in extreme conditions near the supermassive black hole Sagittarius A* in the center of our galaxy. The discovery showed that simple molecules can form and persist even in areas with powerful radiation.
The discovery of water vapor in the vicinity of the galactic core came as a surprise to researchers. It was previously thought that hard radiation and gravitational forces in the vicinity of a black hole should quickly destroy such chemical compounds.
