Developer Re-Logic has released a massive content update for the PC version of Terraria: Bigger & Boulder (version 1.4.5.7). It is the largest post-release patch for this branch, adding over 30 new items, completely reworking mana and staff mechanics, rebalancing melee, ranged, and summoner classes, introducing two secret world generation seeds, and fixing dozens of multiplayer bugs.

Patch 1.4.5.7 is the final planned update in the Bigger & Boulder series. Currently, it is available only on PC via Steam. Versions for PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and mobile platforms have been submitted for certification and will launch as soon as it is complete.

Complete Overhaul of Magic and Gem Staves

The main change in the patch is a fundamental overhaul of the magic class:

  • No regen delay: The delay before mana regeneration starts has been completely removed. Energy now regenerates continuously even while casting spells at 5% of the base rate;
  • New recovery mechanics: When standing still, mana regen speed doubles, and a critically low mana pool triggers additional acceleration;
  • Empty mana penalty cast: If mana runs out, mages can still use weapons, but attack speed drops to 40% (and the character visibly squints);
  • Base balance: Standard background mana regen rate has been reduced by 13%;
  • Gem Staves: Each gemstone now grants its staff a unique projectile effect. Wearing a matching gem robe grants mages an additional damage bonus, while the bar cost for crafting staves has been reduced by 30%.

Weapon Rebalance: Melee, Ranged, and Summoner

The developers updated weapon stats to expand tactical variety across all stages of the game:

  • Melee weapons: The Chlorophyte Saber has been remade into a fast thrusting weapon with 80 damage (up from 57), auto-swing, and a spore effect. The Chlorophyte Claymore now creates a spore cloud on ground impact. The Paladin’s Hammer can now perform regular melee attacks up close before being thrown;
  • Yoyos: The Cascade explodes every two hits, the Kraken gained an expanded hit area and fires waves, while hits with the Eye of Cthulhu can now summon a mini-version of the boss to fight alongside the player;
  • Ranged weapons: Self-damage from all types of rocket launchers is now capped at a safe limit of 60 damage. The Marrow bow shoots splitting bone fragments, and Cursed Darts now pierce up to three targets;
  • Summoners and Whip Stacking: Whip stacking mechanics return when using appropriate accessories. Tag effects are calculated independently of application order. The Electric Eel, Constellation, and Durendal whips received reworked minion synergies.

Over 30 New Items and Secret Seeds

According to the official Steam changelog, thirty items have been added to fill progression gaps, including the Daybloom Staff, Clay Bud Staff, and Ruinous Staff, the Glacier Fang, Lightning Strike, and Arc Surge artifacts, the Silver Bracer, Snake Band, and Wicked Armlet bracelets, the Mobius Strip, Chaos Cylinder, and Phoenix Quiver relics, and the Kinship Peach.

Two new secret seeds have been added to the world generator, with names hinted at by the phrase “Shocking, isn’t it?”. Existing special worlds have also been updated, including the Not The Bees!, skyblock, water park, and planetoid seeds.

UI and Stability Improvements

On the Terraria Community Forums, the developers highlighted key quality-of-life updates:

  • Shared items in loadouts: Favorited items can now be used across multiple equipment loadouts simultaneously without manual swapping;
  • Fast respawn: Dead players can instantly skip the respawn timer if no enemies are near the spawn point;
  • Quest fish: Players can now pick up quest fish even if a duplicate is already in their inventory;
  • Opening chests: Locked chests can now be opened directly by using a key from the player’s hand;
  • Network fixes: Addressed character desync during dashes, chunk loading crashes, network packet vulnerabilities, and a multiplayer bug where the Wall of Flesh instantly killed players.

Crossplay Plans for Update 1.4.6

After wrapping up support for patch 1.4.5, Re-Logic will transition to developing Terraria 1.4.6 — Crossplay Phase One. This major update will introduce the first phase of full cross-platform multiplayer between PC, consoles, and mobile devices. The developers confirmed that support for the game will continue even after crossplay launches.
