At the D23 expo, Pixar revealed the first concept art and plot details for the animated film Coco 2. According to Variety, an older Miguel will once again travel to the afterlife, with the sequel scheduled for a theatrical release in November 2029.
In the sequel to the original animated film, Miguel appears as a teenager. According to Deadline, the storyline is driven by the return of the first film’s main antagonist, musician Ernesto de la Cruz, with actor Benjamin Bratt returning to voice the character. The unexpected return of his old enemy forces Miguel onto a new, life-changing journey into the Land of the Dead.
Creators and Production Team
The creative team behind the original film is returning for the sequel, with Lee Unkrich and Adrian Molina back as directors and Mark Nielsen producing.
The release window for the film was confirmed in an official announcement by The Walt Disney Company, with Coco 2 set to hit theaters in November 2029.
