Disney Prepares ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 6’: Margot Robbie May Star, Johnny Depp in Talks

Disney is continuing development on the sixth installment of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise. According to Deadline, the studio plans to cast Margot Robbie in the lead role, while Johnny Depp could return as Captain Jack Sparrow in a supporting capacity.
Franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed at the D23 presentation that the studio is in active contact with Depp. According to The Guardian, the actor’s final agreement will depend on the quality of the final script. In the current concept, Jack Sparrow will retain an important role in the plot but will make way for a new female lead at the center of the story.
History of the Margot Robbie Project and Film Status
According to Entertainment Weekly, the idea for a spin-off starring Margot Robbie and written by Christina Hodson has been in development since 2020. Bruckheimer previously stated that there were two parallel paths for the franchise—a complete reboot and a solo film starring Robbie—which by 2026 combined into a single project.
The sixth installment is currently in the script-polishing stage. Disney has not yet officially announced a director, the full cast, or a start date for filming.
The previous installment in the saga, “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,” was released in 2017. The combined global box office gross for all five films in the franchise exceeds $4.5 billion.
