US Army Offers Soldiers Four Days Off for GTA 6 Upon Re-Enlistment

A memo from the US Army’s 9th Engineer Battalion based at Fort Stewart, Georgia, has surfaced on social media. According to the document, soldiers are being offered a four-day pass timed with the release of Grand Theft Auto VI as an incentive for re-enlisting.
The directive is titled «Special Reenlistment Incentive – Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) 4-Day Pass».

Bonus eligibility and release dates
According to the document, active-duty service members of the battalion who extend their military service contracts between August 1 and November 14, 2026, are eligible for the time off.
The special pass is scheduled for November 20–23 — right after the global launch of Grand Theft Auto VI, set for November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The order explicitly states that the leave dates were chosen specifically around the game’s launch to boost morale.
Verification and status of the initiative
According to Kotaku, the document is signed by Lieutenant Colonel Ryan Hodgson. The official Fort Stewart website confirms that an officer by that name does indeed command the 9th Engineer Battalion.
As noted by Notebookcheck, offering short-term passes for re-enlistment is standard practice in the US armed forces, but tying the perk to a specific video game release has created a viral precedent. The Army press office has not yet officially confirmed the document’s authenticity.
