Telegram Turns 13: Update 12.10 Adds Welcome Messages, In-Text Files, and Interactive Buttons

Messaging app Telegram has released a major update to mark the service’s 13th anniversary. Version 12.10 introduces private welcome messages for channels and groups, interactive in-text buttons, file placement between paragraphs, and new features for collectible gifts.
The update has already begun rolling out to mobile devices.
Welcome Messages for New Members
Channel and group administrators can now set up up to three welcome messages that automatically pop up for users right after they join. Only the new member sees the notification, keeping public chats free from service alert spam.
Administrators can include photos, videos, tables, and links in the welcome block. The setting is available under “Welcome Message” in the community management menu.
Interactive In-Text Buttons and a Mini Apps Alternative
Bot developers can now place interactive buttons directly between paragraphs of text, dynamically changing a post’s content based on user actions.
According to the official Telegram blog, this makes it possible to run polls, quizzes, text quests, order forms, and product catalogs right inside messages without launching a separate Mini App pop-up window.
The standard post editor has also gained customizable buttons for links to profiles, external websites, and quick copy-to-clipboard actions.
Files Between Paragraphs and Gift Personalization
The expanded text editor can now embed documents, archives, audio tracks, and video files directly between article paragraphs, removing the restriction of attaching files only at the end of a message. Placeholders prompting users to update are provided for older client versions.
The Telegram Marketplace section has updated its collectible gift functionality: when buying a digital souvenir from another user, buyers can now attach a custom text message and signature.
Telegram 12.10 is already available for download on Android devices, with the iOS update set to arrive in the App Store shortly.
