Tom Holland Did Not Sign Deal for 10 New Spider-Man Movies — Viral Rumor Is Fake

A viral claim has racked up millions of views across social media, alleging that Tom Holland signed a record-breaking deal with Sony and Marvel. The posts claimed the British actor inked a contract for ten new Spider-Man films (four standalone movies and six crossovers) spanning until 2040. However, a fact check reveals that the story was fabricated from an out-of-context archival quote and basic math errors.

An Out-of-Context 2021 Quote and the Actual Terms of the Deal

The viral rumor stems from an interview Holland gave five years ago. Back in early 2021, speaking with USA Today, the actor enthusiastically said: “If they want me to do 10 Spider-Man movies, you better believe I will.” He was merely expressing his willingness to continue playing the character, not referencing a signed agreement. On the contrary, in an interview with GQ ahead of the No Way Home premiere, Holland explicitly noted that his initial six-picture contract had ended and that he was legally a free agent.

For Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Holland negotiated a separate new deal. According to TheWrap, the actor’s guaranteed payout for the film started at $20 million plus box office bonuses. However, the agreement included no commitment to appear in ten consecutive projects.

Sony Leadership’s Stance and Passing the Torch

Producers themselves dispute rumors of a schedule mapped out decades in advance. In September, newly appointed Sony Pictures Entertainment CEO Ravi Ahuja told GamesRadar+ that the next installment doesn’t even have a tentative release date, noting that producing Spider-Man movies requires multi-year gaps.

Holland himself reiterated in a recent interview with Variety that he and Kevin Feige have been planning how to pass the torch to a new hero, such as Miles Morales, with discussions ongoing for several years.

The basic arithmetic of the viral posts also falls apart: the gap between 2026 and 2040 is 14 years, not 24. While Peter Parker will undoubtedly return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the studios negotiate Holland’s appearances on a project-by-project basis rather than locking themselves into multibillion-dollar commitments two decades in advance.
