PS5 Emulator Runs Astro’s Playroom at Up to 60 FPS: Why That Doesn’t Mean GTA VI Is Coming to PC Soon

In late September 2026, the emulation community took note of fresh tests of experimental builds of the open-source KytyPS5 emulator. The program managed to run the platformer Astro’s Playroom on a powerful gaming PC and, in some scenes, come close to the psychological mark of 60 frames per second. For backward-compatibility enthusiasts, that’s a notable technological step forward, but stable play is still a long way off: the project continues to suffer from graphical artifacts, frequent crashes and an unstable frame rate.

The testing was done on a top-end configuration with an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 graphics card. To get around the console engine’s standard limits, the enthusiast modified the VBlank parameter, according to the Polish outlet ITHardware. The game’s physics also need to be taken into account: forcing the counter above 60 frames speeds up in-game animation and timings, so comparing the results directly with native PC ports is not yet fair.

The EmK530 Fork, Save Files and the Contrast With Demon’s Souls

The main performance jump came from an experimental branch by third-party developer EmK530, which delivered a gain of 10–20 frames in some locations compared with the project’s main version. As community members note on Reddit, the latest builds fixed the checkpoint and save system and got DualSense gamepad motion sensors emulated.

Astro’s Playroom’s success comes down to the game’s relatively simple engine structure compared with other console exclusives. By contrast, the Demon’s Souls remake ran at about one frame per second in early versions, and the KytyPS5 v0.3.0 update only doubled that figure to two frames, DSOGaming recalls. The developers themselves in the official GitHub repository warn outright about an extremely limited compatibility list and the architecture’s early stage.

Why You Shouldn’t Expect GTA VI on an Emulator on Release Day

Amid the platformer’s success, speculation began circulating online about the possibility of playing Grand Theft Auto VI on an emulator on its console release day, November 19, 2026. But real technical and legal barriers make that scenario impossible for the foreseeable future.

To run any title, a user needs more than just the game file — they need a decrypted dump taken from a jailbroken console running a vulnerable firmware version. The situation isn’t helped by the fact that GTA VI is digital-only, with no physical discs, GameSpot points out. New PlayStation releases require current versions of the system software, and their protection has not yet been cracked.

KytyPS5’s current progress shows enthusiasts can handle the console hardware’s basic instructions, but a full replacement for the real console in demanding modern blockbusters is still out of the question.
