Kristen Stewart and Wagner Moura to Star in Olivier Assayas’s New Mystical Film

Kristen Stewart is teaming up with French director Olivier Assayas again. The actress has landed the lead role in his new mystical film Spiritual World, which is set to shoot from February to April 2027 in France and Germany.

Wagner Moura, Vicky Krieps, Riley Keough, Niels Schneider and Barbara Sukowa have also joined the project. Curiosa Films is producing, and ARTE France Cinéma will co-produce and help finance the film.

A release date has not been announced yet.

Stewart will play a clairvoyant with mysterious premonitions

The main character is named Ada. The official description calls her a young woman with the gift of clairvoyance who experiences mysterious premonitions and supernatural phenomena.

Other plot details are still under wraps. So it’s too early to say the character is literally “haunted by ghosts” – the mystical nature of the story is confirmed, but the specific form of the supernatural has not been revealed yet.

ARTE compares the new project to “Irma Vep” and “Personal Shopper,” noting Assayas’s return to fantastical and supernatural themes.

The parallel with 2016’s “Personal Shopper” is especially clear, where Stewart played a young woman trying to make contact with her dead brother.

This will be Stewart and Assayas’s third feature film together

Spiritual World will be Kristen Stewart’s third feature film with Olivier Assayas.

They first worked together on the 2014 drama “Clouds of Sils Maria,” followed by “Personal Shopper.” For her role in “Clouds of Sils Maria,” Stewart won France’s César Award for Best Supporting Actress, becoming the first American actress to receive the honor.

According to Cineuropa, Spiritual World will be Assayas’s 20th feature film.

For Stewart, it’s also another collaboration with Wagner Moura. The actors have already appeared together in Panos Cosmatos’s vampire thriller Flesh of the Gods, which wrapped production in summer 2026. Moura’s role and those of the rest of the ensemble in Spiritual World have not been revealed yet.

The film doesn’t have an official localized title yet, so it’s too early to use a literal translation like “World of Spirits” – until an official version appears, it’s more accurate to keep the title Spiritual World.
