Spotify confirms AI tracks will be removed from recommendations and adds an “AI character” label

Streaming service Spotify has officially announced new rules for AI-generated content. Following numerous user complaints, the platform will label virtual artists with an “AI character” badge and fully exclude them from personalized recommendation algorithms.

The company said the decision was based on user feedback: listeners do not like discovering that a track they enjoyed was generated by artificial intelligence. Once the rules take effect, this type of music will be available only through a direct search query or through a deliberate subscription to an artist profile.

The official launch of the changes is planned for mid-September. Until then, creators who use neural networks to produce music or media files must notify the moderation team themselves.

To detect violations, Spotify will use its own automated tools for analyzing audio streams and visual content. At the next stage, regular platform users will also be able to report suspicious tracks.
