Google Updates Android With Tap to Share File Transfers and Anti-Scam Protection

Google has introduced a quick data transfer feature called Tap to Share for Quick Share and released Android 17 QPR2 Beta 3. The new features simplify sharing contacts and media files between smartphones while blocking hidden call-forwarding scams.
Tap to Share: How Touch File Transfer Works
According to Google’s official blog, Tap to Share lets users share contacts without extra setup—simply by bringing two compatible Android smartphones close together. To send photos or videos, users must first select the content in the system “Share” menu before holding the devices near each other.
According to 9to5Google, the feature has already begun rolling out to Google Pixel smartphones (starting with the Pixel 6 series). It will soon arrive on Samsung’s foldable flagships—the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8, and Galaxy Z Flip8—and Google plans to bring support to other manufacturers’ devices by the end of 2026.

Call Forwarding Protection and Fixes in Android 17 QPR2
In the new Android 17 QPR2 Beta 3 build, engineers have strengthened voice call security. As detailed in documentation on the Android Developers portal, the OS now prevents third-party apps from silently executing background USSD call-forwarding commands (including codes with *21*). Manually dialing such commands now triggers a mandatory confirmation pop-up on screen.
The update also fixes UI crashes that caused reboots when opening Quick Settings and removes false system alerts about critical battery degradation in the Device Health and Support app.
