A Samsung smartphone has caught fire in the Indian city of Greater Noida, leaving a local resident with thermal burns to his hands and lower body. According to PhoneArena, surviving fragments of the casing and camera module suggest the affected device was likely the flagship Galaxy S26.

The victim, named Majid, was outdoors when he felt extreme heat in his pants pocket. The phone began to smoke, and as he tried to pull it out, the battery flashed and exploded. The man was hospitalized for medical treatment.

According to the owner, the device was purchased about a month ago at the Grand Venice Mall and had been functioning normally until the incident. The victim has already filed an official complaint with Samsung’s Indian division, but the company has not yet released a public statement regarding the cause of the explosion.

Galaxy S25+ Incident in China and Samsung’s Response

The incident in India comes alongside a recent investigation into a similar event in China, where a Galaxy S25+ caught fire at night while charging on July 31.

As Sammy Fans reports, Samsung experts published the findings of their technical investigation into the Chinese incident on August 12. The company stated that the fire was caused by mechanical damage: a previous drop punctured the battery casing internally, leading to a short circuit during charging. Samsung denied any manufacturing defect, a conclusion disputed by the device’s owner.

Experts emphasize that two isolated incidents do not indicate widespread battery defects across the Galaxy S25 and S26 lineups, while the exact model and causes of the phone fire in India are still being determined.
