Tesla Model Y Tops South Korean Auto Sales, Outperforming Hyundai and Kia

The Tesla Model Y electric crossover became the best-selling new car in South Korea in July 2026. With 8,705 registrations, the EV outsold all domestic automakers, including traditional market leader Hyundai Grandeur (8,532 units).
According to a report by BestSellingCarsBlog, this marks the second time in three months that an imported model has taken first place overall in the Korean auto market. The Model Y first earned the best-seller title among all new cars in the country in May 2026, as reported by The Korea Herald.
Tesla’s Sales Growth in South Korea

According to South Korean news agency Yonhap, citing data from automobile importers association KAIDA, Tesla’s total July sales reached 10,237 vehicles. This allowed the US brand to capture roughly a third of South Korea’s imported passenger car segment.
In the first seven months of 2026, Tesla’s total sales volume in South Korea reached 66,376 vehicles, up 149.8% compared to the same period last year. The Model Y crossover remains the primary growth driver, accounting for 52,064 units sold.
