Tesla Delays New Roadster Reveal Again — Now to October 15 Due to Bad Weather

Tesla has once again postponed the presentation of the second-generation Roadster. The event, originally planned for October 1, 2026, in the Waco area of Texas, is now set for October 15.

This time the delay wasn’t caused by the car’s readiness but by the weather. Tesla said it had been tracking the forecast with local meteorologists and decided to change the date because of expected heavy rain and thunderstorms.

The company specifically emphasized that the event can only be held outdoors, so the postponement was necessary for the safety of guests.

Tesla Is Preparing an Unusual Roadster Demonstration

The requirement to hold the presentation outdoors has only heightened interest in what Tesla plans to show.

For several years now, Elon Musk has been talking about a special version of the Roadster with gas thrusters developed with SpaceX’s involvement. According to him, such a system should noticeably improve the electric car’s dynamics and potentially allow it to briefly lift off the surface.

However, Tesla has not yet published the final specs of the production Roadster and has never officially promised to turn it into a full-fledged flying car.

The Information previously reported that the company had been experimenting with an unusual demonstration in which the Roadster was supposed to perform a trick involving lifting off the ground. It’s still unknown whether viewers will see that exact program on October 15.

So for now, claims about a “flying Roadster” are better seen as expectations surrounding the demonstration rather than a confirmed feature of the production car.

The Roadster Has Been Awaited Since 2017

The new-generation prototype was first shown back in November 2017. At the time, Tesla expected to start production in 2020 and opened preorders.

A standard reservation required a $50,000 deposit, while for the limited Founders Series the company accepted full prepayment of $250,000.

Since then, the timeline has slipped repeatedly. In 2026 alone, the anticipated demonstration was first planned for spring, then pushed back further, and eventually scheduled for October 1.

The current delay is relatively small — just two weeks — and, judging by Tesla’s statement, is tied solely to the weather forecast.

At the same time, the presentation does not mean production will start immediately. Musk has previously warned that even after the final demonstration, the car could need another year or more before it reaches the assembly line.

So the October 15 event will primarily be the first detailed look at the current version of the Roadster and the technologies Tesla has been developing for nearly nine years. The company is expected to reveal final specs, prices and delivery dates later.
