Co-op Horror Last Pirates: Die Together Launches in Steam Early Access

Kyiv-based studio RetroStyle Games has released its co-op comedy horror game Last Pirates: Die Together in Steam Early Access. The game tasks a team of up to four players with exploring cursed locations, hauling heavy treasure using stretchy physics-based arms, and escaping monsters that can mimic their friends’ voices.
In terms of gameplay, the title builds on the popular formula of Lethal Company and R.E.P.O.: finding loot is only half the battle, as players must manually carry it back to their pirate ship through dangerous obstacles. The characters’ main tools are unusually long rubber arms, which can be used to grab onto the environment, break down doors, and carry items together.
Voice Mimicking Mechanics and Unique Monsters
One of the most dangerous threats is the Mimic, a creature that takes the form of a random teammate and lures players by playing back actual voice clips previously recorded from their teammates in local voice chat.
The rest of the bestiary also features highly specialized behaviors:
- Crab: steals collected gold and can drag away distracted players;
- Anchorer: attacks from a distance and pulls characters in with a massive anchor hook;
- Snake: completely paralyzes its victim;
- Parrot: screeches loudly, alerting all nearby wandering enemies to the noise.
New Locations, Combat Carts, and Recreation Area
For the Early Access launch, the developers expanded the content: in addition to tropical islands, the game now features a multi-level castle with ziplines and cargo elevators, as well as the cramped holds of an abandoned ship.
To transport heavy chests, players use a physics-based cart that can be upgraded with organizers and even a Cart Cannon. The crew can also hire a trained monkey with its own mini-cart to help out.
Between raids, the team returns to the tavern, which features mini-games like blackjack, air hockey, arcade cabinets, and a rum pool.
RetroStyle Games’ Plans for Early Access
According to the developers’ official website, the demo version was played by over 262,000 players, and Steam wishlists exceeded 220,000 before the launch. The release took place during the Ukrainian Games Festival 2026 online event.
The studio plans to keep the game in Early Access for at least six months, preparing new bosses, a deep progression system, and pirate customization for the 1.0 release. To celebrate the launch, Steam is offering a temporary 20% discount until September 1.
