Rockstar Games has unveiled the largest gameplay demonstration in its history: Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look. The nearly half-hour video, captured entirely on a PlayStation 5 console, was released on the Netflix streaming platform.

We have gathered all the key details revealed by the developers regarding new gameplay mechanics, the simulation of the living world of Leonida, and the game’s main protagonists.

Format and Release

The video features 26 minutes of raw gameplay, offering the first real look at the graphics, physics, and engine performance of GTA VI without the staged cuts typical of trailers.

For the first six hours, the video is available exclusively to Netflix subscribers, after which the full version will be released to the public on Rockstar’s official YouTube channel and the project’s website.

Physical Fitness, Training, and Daily Routine

The game brings back a complex character body transformation system, building on concepts from GTA: San Andreas and Red Dead Redemption 2:

  • Weight and Diet: Regular overeating will directly affect Jason and Lucia’s physique, resulting in extra weight.
  • Musculature: Physical activity and gym visits will help build muscle definition.
  • Fatigue: A lack of sleep impacts the protagonists’ appearance, changing their facial expressions and causing a characteristic tired look with dark circles under the eyes.

It remains unclear whether physical fitness will affect in-game stats (stamina, running speed, punch strength) or if these changes will be purely cosmetic.

Lucia and Jason’s Relationship as a Gameplay Core

The story of the criminal duo is tied directly to the dynamics of their personal relationship. This new interaction system goes far beyond the traditional “honor” meter:

  1. Impact of Choices: Player actions and decisions determine the level of trust and emotional intimacy between the partners.
  2. Fluid Switching: Players can switch between characters in real-time during missions and in the open world.
  3. Tactical Freedom: Players are free to act as a coordinated criminal team or temporarily split the characters to complete independent tasks in parallel.

Crowd AI and Dedicated NPC Department

Pedestrian behavior in Leonida has reached a new level of realism. Citizens react to context and player actions in advance: for example, if they see someone walking down the street openly carrying an assault rifle, the crowd will panic and call the police before the first shot is even fired.

To create such a complex ecosystem, Rockstar dedicated an entire studio division in Los Angeles to focus exclusively on pedestrian simulation, including animations, reactions, and behavioral algorithms.

A Thorough Recreation of Florida

Creating the state of Leonida required years of field research. To authentically capture the spirit of the region, the developers implemented a comprehensive set of measures:

  • On-site Interviews: The team conducted detailed interviews with local residents, police officers, gun shop owners, musicians, and former inmates.
  • Authentic Street Art: More than 50 real-world artists were invited to create in-game murals and graffiti.
  • Vehicle Physics: Car handling and suspension calibration were tuned with the direct participation of professional race car drivers.
  • District Diversity: Clothing styles, racial demographics, speech patterns, and NPC behavior change drastically depending on the city district or suburb.

Release Date and Platforms

Grand Theft Auto VI will be released on November 19, 2026. The game will launch on current-generation consoles — PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The developers have not yet announced a PC version.
