‘The Amazing Spider-Man 3’ Andrew Garfield Rumors Resurface: Here Is What We Actually Know

Max Ivanov · 30.08.2026 22:41 · 3 min read

Information has once again gone viral on social media claiming that Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios have allegedly entered active talks to film a third movie, ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 3,’ starring Andrew Garfield. However, these reports currently remain purely fan speculation — neither trade Hollywood outlets (Variety, Deadline, The Hollywood Reporter) nor the companies themselves have confirmed that the project is in development.

Parody Source and the Origins of the New Wave of Rumors

The latest surge of interest in Garfield’s film series was largely triggered by August hoaxes. The original source of claims about the actor’s “multi-picture deal with Marvel” was the satirical account Chaos Crave, which posts fictional news. Third-party pages quickly reshared the post without crediting the source, creating the illusion of an official inside report.

Nevertheless, several actual events in the film industry also contributed to the rumors.

Andrew Garfield’s Conditions: “It Would Have to Be Something Very Strange”

The actor himself does not rule out donning the red-and-blue suit again, but sets strict creative conditions.

In a recent interview with TheWrap, Garfield explained his stance in detail for the first time in a long while:

  • the actor is not interested in appearing in a formulaic superhero sequel just for the sake of it;
  • the concept must be bold and “very strange,” showing Peter Parker from an entirely unexpected angle that audiences haven’t seen on screen yet;
  • unlike his firm denials in the fall of 2025, the actor made it clear that he is open to original ideas from screenwriters.

Shailene Woodley’s Revelations and the #MakeTASM3 Hashtag

A second trigger for the fan movement came in an interview Shailene Woodley gave to Variety. The actress spoke for the first time about three scenes as Mary Jane Watson that were filmed for ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ but ended up cut from the final edit.

The studio planned to focus on Gwen Stacy’s tragedy, making Mary Jane’s arc central in a full third movie instead. These recollections coincided with Garfield’s comments, reviving the long-standing fan hashtag #MakeTASM3 in social media trends.

Insider Skepticism and the Future of the Franchise

Despite the community’s enthusiasm, industry insiders remain highly skeptical about the third film happening. In a report by SuperHeroHype, analyst Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus emphasized that the studios are currently not taking any practical steps toward filming a solo movie centered on Garfield’s Spider-Man.

Historically, the original The Amazing Spider-Man 3 project directed by Marc Webb was planned for release between 2016 and 2018, alongside a ‘Sinister Six’ spin-off. However, following the mixed box-office performance of the second movie, Sony partnered with Marvel Studios and rebooted the character in the MCU, starring Tom Holland.

Where the Project Actually Stands

Andrew Garfield’s triumphant return in the blockbuster ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ (2021) proved the massive fan affection for his portrayal of the character, and Tom Holland himself has repeatedly stated that he would support finishing his co-star’s trilogy.

However, as of today, ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 3’ has no approved script, director, production budget, or signed contracts. Therefore, any claims that filming is set to begin soon reflect fan wishful thinking rather than actual studio development.
