Timekettle Unveils W4 Plus Translator Earbuds: 52 Languages, Bone Conduction, and Subscription Nuances

At IFA 2026, Timekettle introduced the W4 Plus AI Interpreter Earbuds. The device is designed for real-time translation of live conversations, phone calls, online meetings, and multimedia, offering recognition of 52 languages and 106 regional accents. However, behind the bold marketing claims lie technical limitations: the gadget can’t be called fully standalone, and full access to features depends on the chosen plan.

What Works Offline and What Needs the Internet

The claim that the W4 Plus translates all fifty languages without a network connection isn’t accurate. According to the specs on Timekettle’s website, only 13 language pairs work offline. Moreover, language packs must be downloaded to your smartphone via the app in advance.

Without a connection, only two classic scenarios are available: a personal dialogue where each person takes one earbud, and a passive listening mode for someone else’s speech. Translating calls over cellular, Zoom or WhatsApp meetings, as well as YouTube videos and Netflix shows, relies on cloud infrastructure. The same limitation applies to advanced AI features: generating a bullet-point summary of a conversation (AI Live Summary) and maintaining context in long meetings (AI Conversation Memory).

Bone Conduction and a Hidden Subscription Fee

To keep recognition algorithms from tripping over background noise, the earbuds integrate a bone conduction sensor, paired microphones, and the VoiceFocus noise-cleaning system. The hardware sensor picks up vibrations from your skull bones while you speak, filtering out the rumble of the street or a café. On a single charge, the earbuds last just over three hours of continuous two-way translation, and the included charging case extends total battery life to 12 hours.

When buying the device, it’s important to note the differences between the bundles, as reported by SoundGuys:

  • The base version for $299 offers the full feature set for only 7 days. After the trial period, translating calls and media streams, as well as accessing specialized terminology dictionaries, will require a $14.99/month subscription.
  • The expanded version for $379 comes with a perpetual license for all cloud services and doesn’t require recurring charges.

For business trips and frequent international calls, the W4 Plus covers most needs, but before buying, keep in mind: without an active internet connection, the earbuds’ capabilities shrink to a narrow set of the most common languages.
