AMC has released the first teaser for the fourth and final season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride return as Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier to bring their characters’ European journey to a close. The final chapter is set to premiere in 2027.

Pyrenean Wastelands and Captain Perkins

The final chapter of the saga takes place in Spain. According to the official synopsis, the protagonists traverse the country’s devastated regions in an effort to find a way back across the ocean to America. Production was broad in geographic scope, with location teams working around Madrid, Toledo, Segovia, Bilbao, Andalusia, and along the rocky coast of Galicia.

The key addition to the cast is Emmy and Golden Globe winner Jimmy Smits (Star Wars, Dexter). He plays Captain Alejandro Perkins, a retired US Navy flight surgeon who created an isolated survival enclave in rural Spain. Joining the franchise veterans are Romain Levi, Eduardo Noriega, and Óscar Jaenada.

Eight Episodes to the End

Unlike rumors circulating online about short special episodes, the finale is a full eight-episode season. As confirmed on the official AMC Talk blog, the decision to end the story with Season 4 was made during production of the previous installment.

David Zabel remains as showrunner, while franchise supervisor Scott M. Gimple and practical effects master Greg Nicotero join the lead actors in the producing team.

An exact premiere month has not yet been set: AMC’s official portal lists only a 2027 release window. The atmospheric teaser promises fans a dramatic conclusion to the story of two core characters from the original The Walking Dead.
