50 New Factions and a 4K Interface: Creative Assembly Announces Total War: Shogun 2 Complete Edition

Studio Creative Assembly and publisher SEGA have announced Total War: SHOGUN 2 – Complete Edition, an updated release of the cult 2011 historical strategy game. The project moves to a 64-bit architecture and gets a 4K-optimized interface, reworked graphics and more than fifty new playable clans. It launches October 13, 2026 on Steam, the Epic Games Store, GOG and the Microsoft Store.
Technical upgrades, 4K and 50 minor clans
The developers avoid the word “remaster,” describing the release as a comprehensive enhanced edition. The package combines the base game with the Rise of the Samurai and Fall of the Samurai story expansions and every troop pack released to date.
According to Creative Assembly’s official FAQ, the project has received a deep technical upgrade:
- A native 64-bit executable that removes the RAM limits in large-scale battles;
- Sharp scaling of the interface and fonts for 1440p and 4K monitors;
- Modernized lighting, improved shadow maps and redrawn textures;
- More than 50 previously unavailable minor feudal houses and factions become fully playable;
- Full Japanese and Chinese localization, including professional voice acting.
User content support moves to the Mod.io platform, which will let players share mods across different digital stores. Because of the architecture change, old Steam Workshop mods won’t run on the Complete Edition, but the classic client will remain fully available for fans of older builds.
Free DLC for veterans and a $10 upgrade
The publisher is offering a generous transition program for Steam owners of the game. Everyone who owns the original Shogun 2 will get the missing add-ons from the old catalog added to their accounts for free.
The classic version will be pulled from storefronts on September 28, but it will stay in libraries and continue to work as usual.
The path to becoming Shogun returns October 13th!
