HBO continues to expand the cast of its Harry Potter series. Rafe Spall will play Arthur Weasley, Molly Hewitt-Richards will play the ghost Moaning Myrtle, and young Jasper Ambrose has landed the role of Colin Creevey in Season 2, which will adapt Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Hogwarts Continuity and New Faces

Casting Rafe Spall (Life of Pi, The Big Short, the “White Christmas” episode of Black Mirror) is a symbolic move for the franchise. His father, actor Timothy Spall, played Peter Pettigrew (Wormtail) in the original Warner Bros. film series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the son will bring to the screen the good-natured patriarch of the Weasley family, who works in the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office.

The role of the Hogwarts student ghost Moaning Myrtle, played by Shirley Henderson in the films of the 2000s, goes to stage actress Molly Hewitt-Richards (The Silence Code). Jasper Ambrose (Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy) will play the enthusiastic Gryffindor first-year Colin Creevey, who chases Harry around with a camera.

According to Variety, the storylines of the new characters are directly tied to the secrets of the school’s catacombs and the key events surrounding the Basilisk attacks.

Filming Schedule and Season 1 Premiere

Studio filming for Season 2 will begin in the fall of 2026 in the UK. HBO executives started preparing sets in advance to shorten the production pause and prevent the child actors from aging too abruptly.

As Deadline notes, the cast of the Chamber of Secrets adaptation already includes:

  • Kit Harington (Game of Thrones) as the narcissistic teacher Gilderoy Lockhart;
  • Bonnie Hill, who replaced the actress playing Ginny Weasley after she left the project;
  • Billy Barratt as a young Tom Riddle;
  • Lenny Rush, who is responsible for bringing the house-elf Dobby to life.

A special feature on the official Harry Potter website confirms that the show’s debut season is subtitled Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. It premieres over the 2026 Christmas holidays on the Max streaming service. The trio of main characters — Harry, Hermione and Ron — will be played by Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout.
