Twitch CEO Hints at GTA VI Multiplayer Launch in 2027 — Rockstar Hasn’t Announced It Yet

Grand Theft Auto VI multiplayer may not arrive until 2027, after the main game’s release. That timeline was unexpectedly offered by Twitch CEO Dan Clancy, who told Bloomberg about the platform’s talks with Rockstar Games. Rockstar itself has not announced a GTA VI online mode or a launch window for one.
Clancy said Twitch spent “a lot of time” talking with Rockstar about the studio’s plans and how it might work with content creators. According to him, GTA VI’s release will first drive a noticeable increase in Twitch’s audience, with an even bigger surge expected “next year when they launch multiplayer.” His comments were reported by PC Gamer and other industry outlets.
The wording drew attention precisely because Clancy mentioned direct communication with Rockstar. But it can’t be treated as an official announcement: the Twitch CEO didn’t specify whether the developer gave him a concrete timeline or whether he was simply sharing his own expectation.
Rockstar Still Presents GTA VI as a Single-Player Game
For now, Rockstar’s official position is noticeably more cautious. In its June message about pre-orders opening, the company explicitly called Grand Theft Auto VI a single-player game and confirmed a November 19, 2026 release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The official GTA VI page does not list multiplayer.
The name of the future online project is also unconfirmed. Labels like GTA Online 2 and GTA VI Online are used by players and the media for convenience, but Rockstar has never officially introduced them.
If Clancy’s words do reflect the studio’s plans, at least several weeks — and possibly several months — will pass between GTA VI’s release and the launch of its online component. For comparison, GTA Online arrived two weeks after GTA V, while the Red Dead Online beta appeared roughly a month after Red Dead Redemption 2.
Such a gap would let Rockstar first focus players’ attention on the story campaign and then hold a separate launch for the online mode. But for now this is only the most specific public timeline, and it didn’t come from the company itself.
The current GTA Online shouldn’t disappear with the release of the new installment. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick previously told investors that the company has every reason to keep supporting the existing version of GTA Online after GTA VI launches, given the audience’s continued activity.
So 2027 can be seen as a possible launch window for GTA VI multiplayer, but not as a confirmed date. Official details will come only after a separate announcement from Rockstar Games.
