Naughty Dog Goes Quiet Until 2027: The Last of Us Studio Prepares a Major Reveal for Its Space Epic Intergalactic

Naughty Dog has officially confirmed that a full presentation of its sci-fi action game Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet will not happen until 2027. Through the end of this year, the team is going dark to stay focused on the active production phase. Studio head Neil Druckmann announced the news during a stream tied to the annual The Last of Us Day celebration, Video Games Chronicle reports.

According to Druckmann, development has reached the stage where scattered gameplay elements are finally coming together. The studio head, without false modesty, called the project “the most ambitious game in Naughty Dog’s history.” Alongside the address, the developers published a new screenshot and promised a detailed breakdown of the gameplay and story at the next meeting with fans.

Players should not confuse the showcase with the release, though: 2027 will be the moment of the full reveal, not the game’s launch window. Sony and Naughty Dog are still keeping the official release timing under wraps, and the only confirmed target platform remains the PlayStation 5.

A Bounty Hunter, Trent Reznor and a Trap of a Planet

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet was announced in December 2024, but production actually began back in 2020. For the acclaimed team, this is its first entirely new IP in more than ten years — the studio had long focused exclusively on the Uncharted and The Last of Us universes.

The story’s protagonist is intergalactic mercenary Jordan A. Mun, whose appearance and voice come from actress Tati Gabrielle (Uncharted, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina). In the story, the heroine makes an emergency landing on Sempiria, an isolated planet that lost contact with the outside world hundreds of years ago. According to the universe’s lore, not a single ship that has entered Sempiria’s atmosphere over the past six centuries has managed to return to orbit.

In a message on the studio’s official website, Naughty Dog stresses that the project’s gameplay formula will be the most complex in its history. The developers intend to move away from straightforward cinematic presentation toward deep gameplay systems. The atmosphere and soundtrack of the space drama are being handled by Oscar-winning composers Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. It seems fans of quality single-player blockbusters will have to be patient: there will be no look at real gameplay from this ambitious long-in-development title before 2027.
