Rumors About Naughty Dog’s Future: Studio Plans to Release a New Uncharted Before The Last of Us Part III

A possible roadmap for Naughty Dog’s future releases has surfaced online. According to sources cited by the gaming outlet MP1st, after the studio finishes work on its sci-fi action game Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, the developers plan to release a completely new Uncharted entry, and only after that will they fully commit to a follow-up to The Last of Us.
According to MP1st, the next Uncharted is being built from scratch and is not a remake of the first game. The project is led by Shaun Escayg, who previously served as creative director on the standalone expansion Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. Sources claim the new game will feature Nathan Drake, though his role is still undecided: he could return as the main protagonist, take a back seat, or appear only in a brief cameo.
What’s Wrong With the The Last of Us Part III Release Date
Amid these rumors, claims have begun circulating on social media that the third The Last of Us is scheduled for a 2030 release. In reality, that date is merely a mathematical guess by journalists based on an approximate project queue, not a confirmed production plan.
Naughty Dog itself has not announced a game called The Last of Us Part III at all. In late September, studio head Neil Druckmann officially said only that two projects set in The Last of Us universe are at a “very early stage.” All that’s known is that they will expand the canon beyond the first two games, but their format, titles and approximate release dates remain under wraps.
Intergalactic Is the Top Priority
Naughty Dog’s current flagship project remains Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. The studio confirmed that the game has been in development since 2020, and that its full reveal will only happen in 2027. It still has no exact release date.
If Intergalactic launches in 2027–2028 and a big-budget Uncharted really is next in line, many more years could indeed pass before a potential return to the post-apocalyptic world. But it’s too early to treat the current sequence as final: plans inside Sony can change at any moment, and Naughty Dog has yet to officially confirm the rumors.
