The Controversial Concept Goes Into Production: Jaguar Unveils the 1,030-HP Type 01 EV for £130,000

British brand Jaguar has officially revealed its first production model of a new era — the four-door electric grand tourer Type 01. The car is the practical realization of the brand’s radical 2024 relaunch under the Copy Nothing manifesto. Contrary to what skeptics expected, the automaker barely smoothed over the futuristic edges of the Type 00 concept: the production car keeps the show car’s striking proportions, along with a four-seat cabin and a tri-motor powertrain producing more than a thousand horsepower.
Sales in the UK start in early 2027 at £129,950 (about 16 million rubles at the current exchange rate), with the first customer deliveries expected in the second half of the year.
A Silhouette With No Rear Window and Record Aerodynamics
The big question ahead of the premiere was how much the designers would “simplify” the concept to meet safety and road standards. In the end, the Type 01 kept its exaggeratedly long hood, ultra-low roofline, flat monolithic flanks and signature grille with Strikethrough horizontal slats.
There is no traditional rear glass at all: rear visibility is handled by high-resolution exterior cameras and a digital rearview mirror inside the cabin.
The car rides on 23-inch wheels and features retractable door handles and an active three-position rear spoiler. The drag coefficient was held at 0.23, making the newcomer the most aerodynamic car in the brand’s history, according to Jaguar’s official website.
The JEA Platform and a 13-Minute Charge

Underpinning the car is a custom Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA) platform developed exclusively for the electric flagship. Three electric motors deliver all-wheel drive, a combined 1,030 hp and 1,365 Nm of torque. The 0–100 km/h sprint takes 3.2 seconds, making the heavy grand tourer the most powerful road-going Jaguar in the company’s history.
A 118 kWh usable battery works with an 850-volt electrical system. According to JLR’s press service, peak DC charging power reaches 350 kW: plugging into a fast charger adds 320 km of range in just 13 minutes.
Claimed WLTP range is up to 720 km (about 450 miles), while the stricter US EPA standard puts it at around 640 km.
An Interior With a Longitudinal Spine and a Leap Into the Big League

The interior design finally severs ties with the brand’s conservative past. A massive central spine console visually splits the cabin into four independent seats, shown in the brand’s interactive showroom. A 24-inch OLED display stretches out in front of the driver, while physical switches are kept to a minimum and hidden in the trim.
The Type 01 marks a definitive shift in the brand’s market positioning. Jaguar no longer competes with mass-market premium sedans from Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz. With a starting price of £130,000 for the base version and £144,950 for the Design Vision launch series, the British marque is aiming straight at the Porsche Taycan, Bentley and Aston Martin segment, testing whether wealthy collectors are willing to pay for bold avant-garde design.
