Denuvo Tries to Unmask voices38 Through Steam, Discord and Reddit

Denuvo is trying to establish the real identity of the cracker voices38, whom the company accuses of bypassing Anti-Tamper in at least 26 games. In a new motion, it asked a federal court in California to allow early discovery of data from linked accounts at Valve, Discord and Reddit.
The lawsuit Denuvo GmbH v. Voices38 was filed on September 14 in the Northern District of California. For now the defendant is listed essentially under a pseudonym: Denuvo believes one Reddit account, a Discord ID and seven Steam profiles are linked to voices38, but the company does not know the name of the person or people behind them.
Denuvo claims voices38 bypassed its protection in 26 games, including Hogwarts Legacy, Black Myth: Wukong, Resident Evil Requiem, Doom: The Dark Ages, Stellar Blade and Mafia: The Old Country. Since the lawsuit was filed, the list has already become outdated: new releases have appeared under that name, including for Persona 3 Reload and Star Wars Outlaws.
Valve Could Be Asked to Disclose Payment Data and IPs
As TorrentFreak reports, Denuvo is asking for permission to conduct limited early discovery solely to identify the defendant.
From Valve, the company wants registration details for seven Steam profiles, names and payment addresses, payment methods and transaction history, IP addresses with timestamps, device identifiers and linked accounts.
Discord would be asked to disclose account details, the list of servers the account belongs to and assigned roles. From Reddit, Denuvo wants information about the account, voices38’s posts and comments, and data on subreddit memberships.
Before going to court, the company tried to obtain some of this data directly. According to its account, Valve and Reddit refused to hand over the information without a mandatory legal request, citing privacy policies, and Discord did not respond.
Important: the court has not yet ordered any of the platforms to disclose data. For now Denuvo is only seeking permission to send the relevant subpoenas. Judge Haywood Gilliam Jr. will make the decision.
Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana Enter the Investigation
The motion also contains another detail. According to TorrentFreak, Denuvo’s internal investigation found transactions linked to voices38 through the crypto exchange FixedFloat that involved Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana.
However, the documents do not explain how exactly these transactions were linked to voices38 or whether they contain data that could actually help identify the person. Denuvo is not yet asking FixedFloat directly for information.
The lawsuit itself is not structured as a typical game copyright infringement case: Denuvo does not own the games. The company cites the DMCA’s anti-circumvention provisions, arguing that tampering with Anti-Tamper harms its own business of licensing protection to publishers.
After the initial lawsuit, the voices38 account wrote on Reddit: “Everything is fine. Everything will continue as usual.” No new releases have appeared under that name since then, but whether the lull is connected to the lawsuit is unknown.
