Brad Pitt Returns as Cliff Booth — Fincher’s New Film Hits Netflix December 23

Netflix is preparing to release one of the year’s most unexpected film projects — the crime drama The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth. The film continues the story of the charismatic stuntman from Once Upon a Time in… Hollywood. Brad Pitt once again stars, but Quentin Tarantino has handed the director’s chair to David Fincher, keeping only the screenplay for himself.
For Hollywood, this is an unprecedented creative partnership. Tarantino has entrusted the direction of a film featuring his original character to another cult director for the first time, while Brad Pitt has reunited with Fincher for the first time since Fight Club and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
A Studio Fixer and Hollywood in 1977
According to Netflix Media Center, the story takes viewers to 1977 — eight years after the events of the original film. The movie industry is going through an era of change, and Booth long ago stopped performing stunts on set. He now works as a studio fixer — a specialist who handles delicate problems, pulling producers and stars out of criminal disputes, blackmail and scandals.
Pitt is joined by a powerhouse ensemble cast: Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Carla Gugino and Peter Weller. Timothy Olyphant also returns as actor James Stacy.
Trailer Confusion and an IMAX Premiere
In late August, the streamer released a teaser for the film that social media users mistakenly called the first one. In fact, the debut short aired back on February 8 during a Super Bowl ad break. At the time, the project was announced under the concise title The Adventures of Cliff Booth, but by the start of the fall promotional campaign, Netflix had officially expanded the title to The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth.
The release will follow a hybrid model. To qualify for the upcoming awards season, the film will get an exclusive two-week run in IMAX theaters starting November 25, 2026. The digital premiere for all Netflix subscribers will take place just before the Christmas holidays — on December 23.
