Brendan Gleeson and Jennifer Jason Leigh Join the Far Cry Series: FX Anthology Lands a Star-Studded Cast

FX and Ubisoft have officially expanded the cast of their TV adaptation of the Far Cry game franchise. Big-screen stars are joining the project: Brendan Gleeson (The Banshees of Inisherin, In Bruges), Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight), Hamish Linklater, Sam Spruell and Jamie Demetriou. Their roles are still being kept under wraps.
Big Names and a Creative Partnership with Noah Hawley
The new cast members join previously announced stars including Rob McElhenney (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Lizzie Caplan (Masters of Sex) and Steve Buscemi. Along with acting, Rob Mac serves as a co-writer and executive producer on the project, working alongside Noah Hawley, the creator of the cult series Fargo and Alien: Earth.
According to an official Ubisoft News press release, the fact that many of the actors are reuniting with Noah Hawley (Hamish Linklater and Sam Spruell previously worked with him on Fargo) points to a tight-knit creative team forming within the project.
Anthology Format: Why This Isn’t a Direct Adaptation
It’s important to understand that the series won’t be a literal retelling of individual games in the franchise. The project is conceived as an anthology, with each season having its own setting, an original story and a unique set of characters. Ubisoft has directly confirmed that the TV adaptation’s storyline is not an adaptation of specific installments like Far Cry 3 or Far Cry 5, but unfolds parallel to them within the same universe.
That’s why having top-tier stars in the cast doesn’t mean Vaas Montenegro or Pagan Min will appear on screen — viewers will most likely get an entirely new gallery of colorful villains and heroes.
Filming on the first season began in September 2026. The Far Cry game franchise, launched in 2004, has drawn more than 100 million unique players, and the FX series will be Ubisoft’s most ambitious attempt to bring that experience to the small screen. The premiere date and plot details remain a production secret for now.
