Deep Silver and 4A Games have announced a free next-gen update for Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux. The update arrives October 22, 2026, on PC, and October 29 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The developers stress that this is not a new remaster or remake. The visual style of the original Redux versions stays intact, but both games get technical improvements built for modern hardware.

All platforms get 4K textures, improved animations and audio, more detailed environments, plus fixes and quality-of-life changes suggested by the community.

4A Games will publish the full list of changes when the update goes live.

Consoles Get 4K/120 FPS and Improved Graphics

Native versions of Metro Redux are in the works for PlayStation 5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X|S.

According to Deep Silver, consoles get two main display options: native 4K at 60 FPS and upscaling to 4K at 120 FPS on compatible TVs and monitors.

The developers are also improving lighting, shadows, and particle effects, and adding hardware tessellation and displacement.

Some technologies depend on the platform. PS5 Pro gets PSSR support, while Xbox Series X is listed with TSR for image upscaling and additional anti-aliasing. Xbox also gets spatial audio.

DualSense gets adaptive triggers, and Xbox controllers use Impulse Triggers. Both console platforms also get energy-saving modes.

In the Microsoft ecosystem, Metro Redux also gets Xbox Play Anywhere and Xbox Handheld support.

PC Gets DLSS

The PC version gets DLSS and spatial audio, along with additional fixes and quality-of-life improvements.

PSSR and TSR apply specifically to the console versions – the official announcement lists DLSS for PC.

Owners of the games won’t have to pay for the update. On PC it’s free for Steam, Epic Games Store, and Windows Store users, and on consoles owners of previous versions can move to the new editions without buying again. Gematsu also reports this.

The announcement marks a major milestone for the franchise: combined sales of the Metro games have reached 50 million copies worldwide.

The update also sets the stage for the next major entry in the series – Metro 2039, scheduled for release on February 4, 2027.
