Something’s brewing with Metro 2039: developers tease a mysterious global announcement before Gamescom

4A Games and publisher Deep Silver have released a detailed roadmap for the shooter Metro 2039 ahead of Gamescom 2026. The developers plan to dedicate nearly the entire expo week to the game: fans can expect the premiere of a new trailer, an embargo on early press impressions, a public demo, and a mysterious “global announcement” scheduled for August 24.
While details of the August 24 announcement remain under wraps, the community speculates that the team will reveal the exact release date and open pre-orders. Earlier, in Xbox’s Gamescom lineup announcement, a February 2027 release window was already listed for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

- August 25 (8:00 PM CEST): premiere of a new full-length trailer during the Gamescom Opening Night Live ceremony;
- August 26: first previews and gameplay impressions from journalists and content creators go live;
- August 27–30: public access to the first demo in Hall 9.1 for all Cologne attendees.

Back to claustrophobia with a new protagonist
After the open spaces of Metro Exodus, the new installment returns the series to its roots — the dark tunnels of the Moscow metro — focusing on psychological horror, survival, and scarce resources.
Set six years after the events of the original Metro 2033, the game features a new protagonist for the first time — not Artyom, but a fully voiced character known as the Stranger, forced to descend into the underground under a new despotic regime. As always, 4A Games is working closely with Dmitry Glukhovsky, the author of the book universe, on the narrative and script.
