The Rolling Stones to Get Official Biopic as Band Partners With Yellowstone Creators

The story of iconic British rock band The Rolling Stones is headed to the big screen. According to tabloid The Sun, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Ronnie Wood have signed a production deal with US studio 101 Studios to film an official feature biopic.

Taylor Sheridan’s Track Record and Jagger’s Vision

The choice of studio looks promising: 101 Studios is behind some of the biggest TV hits of recent years, including the Yellowstone franchise, the crime drama Mayor of Kingstown, and the series Landman. The musicians were pleased with the producers’ track record, though production remains in early talks: the movie does not yet have an approved script draft, shooting schedule, or director.

Interestingly, frontman Mick Jagger has already set boundaries for the potential film adaptation. In a recent interview with GQ magazine, he criticized standard biopics that try to cram 60 years of a career into a two-hour movie. As a successful example, the singer cited the Bob Dylan drama A Complete Unknown, which focuses on a specific yet pivotal period in the artist’s life.

The singer also weighed in on casting: he wants the film to explore the band’s early steps in the 1960s in detail, so the actor playing the lead role should be in his early twenties. Jagger believes the young Rolling Stones leader should be played not by a big-name Hollywood headliner, but by an emerging actor on the verge of stardom.

Martin Scorsese Rumors and Next Steps

Following leaks, fan communities began speculating heavily that Martin Scorsese might direct. However, as of today, those guesses remain pure speculation: while the director shares a long-standing friendship with the band and directed the 2008 concert film Shine a Light, no talks have taken place regarding a new narrative project with him.

There has been no official announcement from The Rolling Stones’ management yet, as the project is currently preparing its legal framework. The first real sign of active development will be the hiring of a screenwriter, who will decide which specific chapter of the band’s tumultuous history will form the movie’s foundation.
