Co-Op Gun Fishing Game How to Fish Takes Off on Steam, Tops 60,000 Players in Two Days

Unusual indie game How to Fish from developer Dazed Games has become one of late summer’s biggest viral hits on Valve’s digital storefront. Just two days after launch, the game’s concurrent player count peaked at 60,044 players, pushing the title into the top five of Steam’s global top sellers list.
Players have embraced the release enthusiastically: of nearly 4,000 user reviews on the How to Fish Steam page, over 95% are positive, giving the game an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating.
Island survival, weapon upgrades, and boss battles
The story centers on a group of friends (one to four players) shipwrecked on an ocean archipelago. To survive and earn enough money to head home, players must explore the surrounding waters, catch rare fish, sell their haul, and upgrade their gear.
The game’s main hook is turning meditative angling into high-octane action:
- Firearm fishing: Instead of standard fishing rods, players can literally blast large and dangerous targets using pistols, shotguns, and assault rifles;
- Island bosses: Giant sea monsters guard each area of the archipelago, and defeating them unlocks new biomes and more lethal weapons;
- Mini-games and casino: Aside from hunting, the game features trick shots and gambling games in the local bar using in-game currency (with no real money involved).
Steam Deck support and launch discount
Developed exclusively for PC, the title offers full gamepad support, smooth performance on the Steam Deck handheld, and support for 16 languages, including Ukrainian and Russian.
Through August 27, the game is available at a 38% launch discount, bringing its price in the Ukrainian Steam region to 98 UAH.
