Team17 Unveils XCOM-Style Tactical RPG Worms: Galactic Tactics for Nintendo Switch 2

Publisher Team17 officially announced the turn-based tactical game Worms: Galactic Tactics during the Gamescom 2026 opening ceremony. The title dramatically changes the series’ familiar format: instead of classic 2D artillery battles, players get 3D squad-based turn-based tactics reminiscent of XCOM and Mario + Rabbids.

The game will launch in 2027.

Squad tactics and destructible environments

Players will command a customizable squad of worms across isometric arenas: moving units along a grid, taking cover, and attacking enemies in turns. Despite the genre shift, the developers retained the iconic arsenal of crazy weapons, explosions, and full environment destruction mechanics.

Early gameplay footage of the project previously surfaced online under the codename Project Arrakis. The title is being developed by British studio Absolutely Games, which specializes in tactical strategy games and previously released Classified: France ’44.

A second game in the universe and next-gen consoles

According to Nintendo Everything, at the end of the debut trailer, the publisher confirmed that another standalone Worms game is currently in development, though its details and genre remain under wraps.

Currently, Worms: Galactic Tactics is officially confirmed for the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027. The company will reveal the list of other supported platforms at a later date.
