Ubisoft Announces Full 3D Remake of Heroes of Might and Magic III with Support for Classic Maps

During the Gamescom 2026 opening ceremony, Ubisoft officially announced Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake, a full 3D remake of the cult classic 1999 turn-based strategy game. Developed on the Snowdrop engine, the project is set to release in 2027 on PC and current-gen consoles.
Ubisoft Chengdu and Ubisoft Shanghai are developing the game. Unlike the 2015 HD edition, the developers have completely rebuilt the visuals in 3D, adding support for 4K resolution, a free camera, dynamic lighting, changing seasons, and 3D town screens. Meanwhile, the core mechanics of the original—map exploration, resource gathering, turn-based tactical combat, and hero leveling—will remain untouched.
All Expansions and Compatibility with 1999 Maps
The remake will launch with content from the base game, The Restoration of Erathia, and both iconic expansions— Armageddon’s Blade and The Shadow of Death, preserving all nine original factions, including Conflux. The story campaigns will be combined into a single narrative arc with new cutscenes and an added prologue.
The main technical highlight is backward compatibility with fan-made maps: the remake will support thousands of custom scenarios and campaigns created for the classic Heroes 3 over the past 25 years. The project will also feature a built-in modern map editor and a sharing hub.

Multiplayer, Hot Seat, and Original Steam Release
The netcode has been rebuilt to modern standards: multiplayer supports matches for up to eight players with matchmaking and a simultaneous turns system. The classic local Hot Seat mode for playing on a single screen is also preserved.
As a surprise, the publisher released on Steam the original Heroes of Might and Magic III: Complete edition with all expansions, which was previously unavailable on Valve’s platform.
Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake is scheduled to launch in 2027 for PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, Ubisoft Connect), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
