2027 Set to Be a Record Year for Anime With The One Piece, Frieren, Kagurabachi, and Dandadan Confirmed

Japan’s animation industry has set its tentative schedule of major releases for 2027. Viewers can look forward to the debut of the long-awaited adaptation of Kagurabachi, Season 3 of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, the WIT Studio series The One Piece, and the return of dozens of popular franchises.

Production committees have set release windows for major blockbusters throughout the entire calendar year.

Winter and Spring Seasons: From The One Piece to Kagurabachi’s Debut

Kicking off the year in January are Season 2 of the action anime Sakamoto Days on Netflix, alongside Season 3 of fantasy series Mashle and Shangri-La Frontier.

In February 2027, Netflix and WIT Studio will release The One Piece anime remake: a seven-episode season running about five hours total that re-adapts the East Blue arc up to the Baratie Restaurant arc.

In April, one of Weekly Shonen Jump’s biggest new additions will launch: the Kagurabachi series from studio Cypic, directed by Tetsuya Takeuchi.

Summer and Fall Premieres: Frieren, Dandadan, and Feature Films

Fall will bring Season 3 of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, set to premiere in October 2027. The story will adapt the Golden Land arc and the confrontation with the demon Macht.

Science SARU has officially confirmed the release of Dandadan Season 3 sometime in 2027.

In the summer, theaters will screen the 16th feature-length anime film One Piece Film: God Valley, focused on the God Valley Incident. Volleyball drama fans will also see the release of Haikyu!! The Movie: VS The Little Giant, covering the Karasuno vs. Kamomedai match, alongside the special episode Where Monsters Go.

Projects in Development Without Confirmed Dates

Several popular titles frequently appearing on fan lists are currently in production, but have not received official 2027 release dates yet:

• Blue Lock (Season 3): the NEO EGOIST LEAGUE arc was announced without a release year;
• Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol: the continuation from Toei Animation is currently in production;
• The feature film Solo Leveling: Beyond the System from A-1 Pictures remains without a theatrical release schedule;
• Jujutsu Kaisen Season 4 (Culling Game arc) and the feature-length Chainsaw Man arc from studio MAPPA do not have exact release timelines.
