Kallina Liang Gained 6.5 cm on Each Thigh and Ate 12 Eggs a Day for Street Fighter’s Chun-Li

Canadian actress Kallina Liang has revealed the extreme preparation she underwent for the role of Chun-Li in the new live-action Street Fighter movie. To match Capcom’s iconic game canon as closely as possible, she completely overhauled her diet, trained in three martial arts, and added 6.5 cm to each thigh.

A 12-Egg Diet and Two Hours of Martial Arts a Day

Chun-Li has been known for her powerful legs and devastating jumping kicks since her debut in Street Fighter II (1991). To embody that visual on screen, Liang spent months on a muscle hypertrophy program.

In an interview with Empire, excerpts of which were shared by ComicBook.com, the actress admitted that her regimen demanded strict discipline:

• Training: two hours of intense daily sessions combining taekwondo, Muay Thai, wushu, and heavy lower-body strength work;
• Caloric surplus: eating every two hours and consuming 12 eggs a day to accelerate muscle gain;
• Result: by the final stage of filming, each thigh had grown by about 6.5 cm.

As Nintendo Life adds, at one point the sheer volume of food became a physical ordeal for the actress, but the director’s vision required real muscle, not CGI.

Slow-Motion Replays from PlayStation 5 Games

The preparation went beyond the gym. To replicate the character’s fighting style, Liang played classic entries in the series on a PlayStation 5, recorded Chun-Li’s attack animations with her phone camera, and analyzed them frame by frame in slow motion. That helped her translate authentic fighting stances, lunge trajectories, and the signature timing of her moves into real stunts.

Set in 1993, with a Star-Studded Cast

According to the official synopsis from Paramount Pictures, the film takes place in 1993. In the story, Chun-Li invites the estranged Ryu and Ken to the World Warrior Tournament, behind which lurks a massive criminal conspiracy.

The movie is directed by Kitao Sakurai, and the cast brings together stars from film, wrestling, and music:

• Andrew Koji as Ryu;
• Noah Centineo as Ken;
• Jason Momoa as Blanka (also producing);
• David Dastmalchian as M. Bison;
• Roman Reigns as Akuma;
• Cody Rhodes as Guile;
• 50 Cent as Balrog;
• Olivier Richters as Zangief.

Release Date

In an official press release from Capcom, it was confirmed that the world premiere of Street Fighter will take place on October 16, 2026. The joint project from Legendary and Paramount will be the third major attempt to bring the franchise to the big screen, following the 1994 and 2009 films.
