The World’s Only Bugatti Brouillard for €10 Million: The Story of the 1,600-HP Hypercar Inspired by Ettore Bugatti’s Beloved Horse

Photos of the unique collector hypercar Bugatti Brouillard — a one-off masterpiece built for a private client — have gone viral on social media again. The car pioneered Bugatti’s Programme Solitaire bespoke coachbuilding program, featuring a fully original carbon-fiber body, a 1,600-horsepower W16 engine, and styling inspired by the favorite thoroughbred horse of the company’s founder, Ettore Bugatti.

The Founder’s Horse and a Miniature Sculpture in the Gear Selector

The name Brouillard translates from French as “fog” — that was the name of Ettore Bugatti’s beloved white stallion. According to archival records from Molsheim, the founder was so attached to the horse that he personally designed a mechanism that allowed the animal to open its stall latch by itself.

As noted in the official Bugatti Newsroom press release, the legendary horse’s image became the design’s leitmotif:

• the leather door panels and headrests feature intricate embroidery depicting a running horse silhouette;
• the gear selector is machined from a solid aluminum block and topped with a transparent glass dome;
• inside the gear lever sits a handcrafted miniature sculpture of Brouillard.

1,600 HP and a Unique Body Based on the Mistral

The project’s technical basis was the chassis of the open-top W16 Mistral roadster, but engineers completely rebuilt the structural framework, transforming the car into a closed coupe.

Powering the hypercar is a monumental 8.0-liter quad-turbo W16 engine producing 1,600 hp. The body panels were redesigned from scratch: the designers ditched sharp, angular lines in favor of smooth, muscular surfacing reminiscent of a racehorse’s physique, adding an integrated ducktail rear spoiler and a massive lower diffuser.

An Interior That Pays Tribute to the Bugatti Dynasty

The hypercar’s cabin was tailored to the specific owner’s anatomy. According to Car and Driver, the client is a major collector who gathers not only the brand’s cars but also designer furniture by Carlo Bugatti (Ettore’s father) and animal bronzes by Rembrandt Bugatti (the founder’s younger brother).

The interior brings together the family’s legacy:

• the seats and panels are upholstered in exclusive Parisian checkered fabric and textured hand-finished leather;
• trim elements are made of carbon fiber with a rare emerald-green sheen;
• a longitudinal carbon-fiber fin splits the panoramic glass roof, visually extending the hood’s center line straight through the cabin.

The Programme Solitaire and a €10–15 Million Valuation

The Brouillard opened the top tier of personalization — Programme Solitaire. Unlike the standard Sur Mesure customization program, where clients choose colors and materials for production cars, Solitaire is classic coachbuilding: creating an entirely new body on an existing platform.

In an interview with Autostrada Magazine, Bugatti’s design chief Frank Heyl explained that production of such cars is strictly limited to a maximum of two examples per year, as the engineering and design effort for a single one-off model is comparable to launching a full production series. Two more unique cars have since emerged from the program — the F.K.P. Hommage (honoring Ferdinand Piëch) and the Destrier hypercar, unveiled in August 2026.

Although Bugatti has officially ended production of the series-built W16 Mistral and is transitioning to the hybrid V16 in the Tourbillon, the Solitaire program lets select clients commission one last individual monument to the fading W16 era.

Bugatti keeps the official price of the one-off Brouillard under wraps, but given the Mistral’s base price of €5 million and the cost of designing a bespoke body, European analysts estimate the final transaction at €10–15 million.
