HBO has released a new trailer for the first season of the upcoming Harry Potter TV series, adapting Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. The clip showcases key scenes from J.K. Rowling’s first book and reveals the official premiere date: the eight-episode season debuts on December 25, 2026, on HBO and HBO Max.

According to People, the new video offers a detailed look at the Sorting Ceremony, a Quidditch match, the Mirror of Erised, the mountain troll scene, and Professor Quirrell.

The main trio of wizards is portrayed by young actors Dominic McLaughlin (Harry), Alastair Stout (Ron), and Arabella Stanton (Hermione). Hogwarts faculty is also featured prominently: Entertainment Weekly highlights John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape.

A Ten-Year Plan and Continuous Filming

The TV format will allow the creators to explore the book’s plot in greater detail, incorporating storylines and minor characters that were left out of Chris Columbus’s 2001 feature film.

In an official Warner Bros. Discovery press release, the company confirmed its long-term strategy: each of Rowling’s seven novels will form the basis of a dedicated season, with production planned to span roughly ten years.

Studio leadership is confident in the project’s success and has already renewed the series for a second season adapting The Chamber of Secrets. According to Variety, filming for the second season starts this fall to avoid long breaks and preserve the young leads’ natural age progression.
