GTA VI Lets Jason Shave While Characters Can Gain Weight, Work Out, and Shift Relationships

Following a series of closed previews and interviews with developers at Rockstar Games, new details about Grand Theft Auto VI’s gameplay mechanics have surfaced online. The game will bring back character body shape customization, interactive grooming at safehouses, nonlinear relationships between the protagonists, and more intricate heist mechanics.
Building Muscle, Sleep Schedules, and Bathroom Shaving
In an interview with Dazed magazine, studio representatives confirmed the return of a San Andreas-style metabolism system. Constantly eating fast food leads to weight gain, hitting the gym builds muscle mass, and neglecting workouts causes body definition to gradually fade away.
Gyms featuring bench presses, deadlifts, squats, and treadmills remain entirely optional, granting boosts to stamina and health bars. At the same time, the game tracks player lifestyle closely: as GamesRadar+ notes, chronic sleep deprivation, prolonged police chases, and stress cause visible signs of fatigue and slow the characters’ reaction times.
Facial grooming has been moved directly into safehouses: Jason can shave his stubble or trim his hair in front of a mirror. However, the developers opted against the ultra-slow hair growth seen in Red Dead Redemption 2 to maintain a faster gameplay pace, while complex hairstyles are still handled at barber shops and salons. During hands-off demos, journalists also noticed realistic localized injuries: after falling onto asphalt from a taser shot, characters had distinct abrasions strictly on their knees and elbows.
Partner Dynamics and Cash in Duffel Bags
The connection between Jason and Lucia is no longer governed by a primitive progress bar. Their relationship changes dynamically: the pair can spend downtime at the beach, go kayaking, visit the zoo, or keep things strictly business as a pragmatic criminal alliance.
The economic model has also become more realistic:
- Funds are divided into bank deposits, cash in pockets, and loot in duffel bags;
- Cash can be lost upon arrest or death in a shootout, forcing players to regularly stash money into bank accounts via ATMs;
- Jewelry, rare watches, and drugs do not automatically convert into a cash balance: stolen goods must be manually fenced to underground buyers;
- Robbing stores requires scouting: security cameras monitor retail floors, and lingering too long around a locked safe risks police patrols arriving before the loot is secured.
According to the official Rockstar Games website, Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
