Apple Drops Paper Documentation From iPhone 18 Pro Box — Only the Phone and a Cable Remain Inside

Apple has once again trimmed the contents of its flagship smartphones’ boxes. In the tech specs for the new iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, the “Documentation” item has disappeared from the in-the-box list: buyers will find only the phone itself and a one-meter USB-C cable inside.

One Less Line in the Box

The change appears in the official product descriptions on Apple’s websites in the US, the UK and most other countries. On the specs page for last year’s iPhone 17 Pro, the in-the-box section traditionally listed three items: the smartphone, a charging cable and documentation. In the equivalent section for the new iPhone 18 Pro, only two remain — the device itself running iOS 27 and a one-meter Type-C cable.

Dropping paper leaflets continues the company’s environmental initiative. In 2020, alongside the debut of the iPhone 12, Apple removed wired EarPods and the charging adapter from factory packaging, citing reduced electronic waste and smaller shipping boxes. Later, the branded apple stickers disappeared from the boxes, and now it’s the turn of printed warranty cards and basic instruction inserts.

Plastic-Free Packaging and a Digital Manual

In the product descriptions, the manufacturer emphasizes that Pro-series packaging is now 100% wood-fiber-based and fully recyclable. All user guides have gone digital: users can learn about the interface and service terms through the handbook on Apple’s support site.

Whether paper disappears from boxes entirely depends on individual countries’ laws. For example, on the Indian version of the official store, documentation for the foldable iPhone Duo is still listed as included because of local requirements for mandatory paper labeling of consumer electronics.

For most global markets, flagship iPhone packaging has become extremely spartan, cementing a minimalist standard: the box holds only the smartphone itself and a cable for plugging into a wall outlet.
