Genshin Impact Offers Free Limited 5-Star Character for First Time in Generous Patch 7.1 Anniversary Rewards

HoYoverse is taking an unprecedented step to celebrate the sixth anniversary of Genshin Impact. In Update 7.1, titled “A Rekviem for the Underworld” and set for release on September 23, 2026, players can claim two free five-star characters: one from the permanent standard banner and a rare limited event character of their choice.

Limited Legend Selector and Standard Pool

The biggest surprise of the anniversary livestream was the reveal of a standalone limited character selector. For the first time in the game’s history, the developers are allowing players to guaranteed-claim a character that previously appeared exclusively in time-limited event wishes.

According to a reward summary on Reddit, the special anniversary pool includes six characters:

  • Tartaglia (Childe) — Hydro bow;
  • Nilou — Hydro sword;
  • Baizhu — Dendro healer;
  • Chiori — Geo sword;
  • Clorinde — Electro duelist;
  • Varesa — a five-star character from later updates.

In addition, the game will retain its standard free selector featuring permanent five-star characters: Jean, Diluc, Mona, Qiqi, Keqing, Tighnari, Dehya, and Yumemizuki Mizuki. In total, participating in the anniversary events will guarantee players two legendary characters for their account.

20 Wishes and Top-Up Bonus Reset

The anniversary giveaway also includes traditional gacha currency:

  • A daily login event in the anniversary calendar will award 10 Intertwined Fates;
  • Another 1,600 Primogems (equivalent to 10 pulls) will be sent directly to players’ in-game mail;
  • The top-up shop will undergo its scheduled first-time purchase bonus reset for Genesis Crystal packs.

Genshin Impact officially celebrates its sixth anniversary on September 28. Patch 7.1 launches across all platforms on September 23, allowing players to claim their rewards as soon as maintenance ends. Such a generous gift reflects a shift in publisher strategy to fight for player attention amid intensifying competition among action gacha titles.
