Video-shotcraft Turns Claude Code and Codex into a Promo Video Studio

An open-source project called video-shotcraft is gaining traction in the developer community, turning autonomous AI assistants Claude Code and Codex into an automated video production studio. The tool teaches language models to programmatically assemble cinematic presentation and promotional videos for websites and apps using the Remotion React framework.

Code-Driven Rendering Over Diffusion Neural Networks

On social media, the project was quickly dubbed an alternative to video generators like Sora or Runway that create clips from a single text prompt. In reality, video-shotcraft’s architecture works differently: it is not a neural network generating video streams from noise, but a set of pre-built components and automation workflows for AI agents.

According to the project repository on GitHub, the algorithm takes real screenshots of software or webpages as input and programmatically animates the interface. The library includes 157 shot “recipes” with configured 2.5D virtual camera physics, smooth zooms, pop-up overlays, sound effects, and editing synced to background music beats. Examples are available in an interactive gallery featuring 214 demos.

The AI can adapt a pre-made 10-scene Ink Press promo template in 1080p resolution at 30 frames per second or design a custom storyboard for specific software, approving the visual style step by step with the developer.

In-Browser Motion Workbench Timeline and Licensing

For fine-tuning videos manually, the creators added Motion Workbench, an in-browser editor with timeline tracks similar to a simplified CapCut. After the agent generates a project, users can manually tweak headlines, adjust button colors, or change scene duration and playback speed before final rendering.

The tool installs in the terminal with a single command via the skill manager:

The project itself is distributed under the open Apache 2.0 license and has already surpassed 8,300 stars on GitHub. However, the base renderer’s terms are worth noting: the Remotion library is free for individual enthusiasts and small startups, but large businesses require a paid commercial license. For indie developers, video-shotcraft offers a convenient way to assemble professional product trailers without paying motion design agencies.
