Minecraft May Get Its First New Dimension in 15 Years — Fans Are Waiting for Sift at Minecraft Live

Mojang will hold its next showcase, Minecraft Live, on September 26, 2026, where it will discuss the future of the main Minecraft game and other projects in the series. The company is keeping the show’s contents under wraps for now, but one of the biggest fan theories is the possible arrival of a completely new dimension — Sift.

Sift itself is not a rumor. Mojang officially unveiled it in August as a new dimension in Minecraft Dungeons II, which players enter through mysterious rifts. It has its own landscapes, creatures and threats, and will be one of the central features of the Dungeons sequel.

Minecraft Dungeons II launches on September 29 — just days after Minecraft Live.

Why players expect Sift in the main Minecraft game

Speculation about the new dimension being integrated into the main game grew after the recent Blue Creeper Battle event, tied to the promotion of Minecraft Dungeons II.

According to Mojang’s official description, the High Council of Illagers uses a mysterious force and opens a path from Sift into other worlds, sending infected creatures through it. Rifts between dimensions have also appeared repeatedly in Dungeons II promotional materials.

This led part of the community to suggest that Mojang might use Sift not only within the spin-off but also tie it to a future update for the main Minecraft game.

GameSpot picked up the theory too, but the outlet did not claim that Sift’s addition has already been confirmed. For now, it is purely speculation based on the proximity of Minecraft Live, the active promotion of the new dimension and the use of rifts in recent events.

It would be Minecraft’s first new dimension since 2011

If Sift does make the jump to the main game, the update would be especially notable for Minecraft.

The game currently has three dimensions — the Overworld, the Nether and the End. The last completely new dimension was the End, which arrived in 2011 alongside the final stage of Minecraft 1.0’s development.

Since then, Mojang has repeatedly overhauled existing worlds on a large scale — for example, it completely revamped the Nether in the Nether Update and significantly changed Overworld generation in Caves & Cliffs. But no fourth full-fledged dimension has appeared in that time.

That is exactly why even a hint of Sift generated so much interest in the community.

At the same time, Mojang currently officially confirms only that Sift exists in Minecraft Dungeons II. On the Minecraft Live page, the company directly suggests waiting for the stream to find out what the next update to the main game will be.

So it is too early to talk about Sift as an already announced fourth Minecraft dimension. An answer may come on September 26 at Minecraft Live.
