New M14 Rifle Found in CS2 Files: a Sniper Hybrid with 115 Damage for $4,100

Right after the release of the large-scale Rush Hour update on September 22, 2026, dataminers found configuration data for a new firearm under the working identifier weapon_m14 in the files of the shooter Counter-Strike 2. Valve has not officially announced the new rifle. For the fan and tournament community, the discovery became the main event of the week: the developers take an extremely conservative approach to expanding CS’s base arsenal, and the specs of the found M14 point to an attempt to close the long-standing economic gap between the budget SSG 08 and the uncompromising AWP.
The hidden weapon was first revealed by dataminer Thour on X, who studied the weapons.vdata configuration file. According to the current lines of code, buying the M14 will cost a player $4,100, the reward for eliminating an opponent will be the standard $100 for rifles, and base damage is set at 115 with a 4x headshot multiplier.
M14 Specs: AWP Power with One-Round-at-a-Time Reloading
In its key ballistic parameters, the M14 is as close as possible to the game’s main sniper caliber. The rifle uses large-caliber .338 Magnum ammunition, has maximum armor penetration and can shoot through thick obstacles and walls, according to Cybersport.Metaratings.
At the same time, the developers built a number of strict balance restrictions into the weapon:
- fire mode is strictly single-shot, and the delay between shots is almost two seconds;
- after each trigger pull, the scope is forcibly kicked out of optical zoom;
- the ammo system is strictly limited to five rounds in the magazine and five in reserve;
- reloading is done one round at a time, like pump-action shotguns;
- the rifle has only one level of optical magnification, with the option to switch to iron sights.
Test Status and the Large-Scale Rush Hour Patch
The presence of parameters in the game files does not guarantee the rifle will soon appear in main matchmaking. At the moment, the M14 has no finished 3D model or animations, and some internal flags point to a rough build status. It is possible the weapon was designed not for the competitive 5v5 format but for casual matches or a new fast-paced mode.
The September Rush Hour update itself brought many official changes to the shooter, described in detail in the developers’ announcement in the Steam Community. The game debuted 3v3 matches on compact arenas, an updated map pick stage in Premier mode, silent reloading, quiet sniper zoom-out and the return of clan tags. Clearly, before full balance tests of the M14, the company will prefer to assess how the current mechanical changes affect the esports meta.
