Sony Shows New God of War Laufey Gameplay — Faye Gets a Serpent Bow and a Five-Arrow Volley

Sony and Santa Monica Studio have shown new footage of God of War Laufey and revealed more details about Faye’s combat system. Pre-orders open on September 29, and the game launches on February 16, 2027, on PlayStation 5.

The main new feature is the Serpent Bow — an enchanted bow that can change shape like a snake. According to Santa Monica Studio, the weapon isn’t just for ranged combat: Faye can draw it almost instantly in the middle of combos, launch enemies into the air, and keep attacking with arrows.

The bow has two firing modes

Fully pressing the aim button activates a mode with increased accuracy and range. Hits to specific body parts can limit an enemy’s movement or ability to attack, opening up opportunities to continue a combo in melee.

In this mode, Faye can charge up to five arrows and fire them in a single volley. The developers specifically show how this technique can be combined with abilities that launch enemies into the air.

Partially pressing the button activates more mobile hip-fire shooting. It’s designed for close range and lets Faye quickly fire several arrows without interrupting her movement or combos.

The Serpent Bow also has different ammo types — rapid-fire, explosive, and multi-target.

The weapon can be rebuilt to suit your playstyle

Further customization comes from Serpent Scales — swappable “scales” for the bow. They change its appearance and also provide unique in-game bonuses, letting you specialize the weapon for a particular combat style.

The bow itself will also have a separate set of unlockable skills.

Other gear for Faye can be customized too. Armor affects stats and passive effects, Blade changes the properties of her sword, and Catalysts are magical artifacts with various abilities.

So Laufey continues the RPG systems of recent God of War games, but based on the new gameplay, it puts even more emphasis on combining weapons and creating your own combat build.

Digital Deluxe Edition contents revealed

The Digital Deluxe Edition includes the Dark Alchemy armor set, matching Blade, Bow Scales, and Catalyst, a set of in-game resources, a digital mini artbook, and the official soundtrack.

Pre-ordering any version gives players the Last Wish Armor Set, the Phranque Golden Leaves cosmetic variant, and a resource pack. Sony hasn’t announced prices in the new reveal yet.

God of War Laufey tells Faye’s story after her death. She wakes up in Everywhen — the gods’ afterlife, where she discovers that the plans to protect Kratos and Atreus are under threat.

Santa Monica Studio calls the game the next main entry in the God of War series, but it can also be played as a standalone story without having to know the previous games.
