GTA VI Will Indeed Have Sex Scenes, but Rumors of an X 18+ “Pornographic” Rating Were a Mistake

Social media is buzzing with a rumor that Grand Theft Auto VI has supposedly received an X 18+ age rating in Australia, a category reserved exclusively for explicit pornography. Based on this, users concluded that Rockstar Games had added hardcore sex scenes to the game. And while the developers indeed don’t plan to make the project modest, the argument about a pornographic rating stems from ignorance of the law and a system error.
Australia’s classification system does use the X 18+ label. However, according to the regulator’s official rules, this category applies only to films containing real images of sexual intercourse. For computer games, such a rating simply doesn’t exist. The highest allowed tier for the gaming industry in the country is R 18+, and any interactive content that goes beyond it receives a Refused Classification (RC) status and is completely banned from legal sale.
In addition, local law strictly prohibits any public advertising of X 18+ material. So if such a label did briefly appear on GTA VI ad banners in the PlayStation Store digital shop, it was purely a layout error or a technical interface glitch, not an actual classification.
What the Australian regulator actually says
The most interesting detail lies in the actual Australian Classification database. It does contain a preliminary entry for Grand Theft Auto VI, which received an MA 15+ rating through the International Age Rating Coalition (IARC) automated system.
The official description of this version explicitly lists consumer warnings:
- “Strong Sexual References”;
- “Sexualised Imagery”;
- “Strong Nudity”;
- “Strong Sex Scenes”.
The listing also mentions coarse language and violence. Thus, the presence of explicit episodes and nudity in the game is officially confirmed by the regulator’s records. However, the MA 15+ category allows such content within the story and sits incomparably below the pornographic X 18+ mark.

Currently, the live Australian GTA VI page on PlayStation Store shows no extreme labels. The project is already available for pre-order, and the release for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles is scheduled for November 19, 2026. It’s impossible to draw conclusions about “full-fledged pornography” in the game — the degree of explicitness will only become clear after release, but it definitely won’t go beyond traditional console limits.
