AION 2 Launches Globally on PC — the Cult MMORPG Sequel Is Free to Play

NC has launched the global version of AION 2, the sequel to one of the best-known Korean MMORPGs. As of October 5, the game is free to play on PC via Steam and the company’s own PURPLE launcher. Founder’s Pack owners got five days of early access starting September 30.
This is a global release, not the worldwide debut of AION 2. The game first launched in South Korea and Taiwan on November 19, 2025. The international version has separate servers for North and South America, Europe and Japan.
On Steam, AION 2 follows a free-to-play model. Founder’s Packs starting at $24.99 mainly offered early access and extra in-game items — you don’t need to buy a pack to play the game itself.
The story is set 200 years after the first AION
Some publications claim 900 years pass between the events of the two games, but the official version gives a different figure. AION 2 takes place 200 years after the original AION.
After the Tower of Eternity is destroyed, the Daeva gradually lose their powers, and the conflict between the Elyos and the Asmodians continues under pressure from the Balaur.
The sequel was built on Unreal Engine 5. According to the official AION 2 page, the game world is roughly 36 times larger than the original, and flight has become a full part of exploration and combat rather than just a way to get around.
The game offers PvE dungeons, raids, PvP and large cross-server clashes between factions. The combat system emphasizes manual control, positioning and ability combos.
More than 200 appearance settings
NC paid special attention to the character editor. The company claims more than 200 customization parameters, from body type and skin tone to facial features and other appearance details.
The global version launched with eight classic classes from the series. The Asian version of AION 2, however, is developed separately and has already received additional content since its initial release, so the feature set may not be exactly the same across regions.
For NC, the global launch marks the project’s second stage: by the time it arrived in other regions, AION 2 had already been running in South Korea and Taiwan for nearly a year. So it’s more accurate to call this a global PC release rather than the launch of a brand-new game.
