At BlizzCon 2026, Blizzard Entertainment unveiled its upcoming roadmap for the World of Warcraft universe. The developers showcased a trailer for content update 12.2, Eclipse, for the current Midnight expansion and shared the first cinematic teaser for The Last Titan—the concluding chapter of the Worldsoul Saga trilogy. The final expansion is slated for release in 2027.

Eclipse Patch: Xal’atath Marches on the Heart of Azeroth

Confusion initially spread among players, with some labeling Eclipse a standalone expansion. In reality, it is a major mid-cycle patch (12.2) for World of Warcraft: Midnight, which launched in spring 2026.

The newly revealed trailer centers on the dark Void entity Xal’atath, whose shadowy forces are breaching their way toward the planet’s core and its dormant worldsoul. The update will serve as a climactic narrative bridge leading Azeroth’s defenders directly into the impending finale.

The Last Titan and a Reimagined Northrend

The highlight of the showcase was the first official teaser for the trilogy’s finale, The Last Titan. While Blizzard first introduced the Worldsoul Saga concept back in 2023, the BlizzCon stage offered the first look at the expansion’s visual direction and officially confirmed a 2027 release window.

As GamesRadar+ highlights, the expansion is positioned as the culmination of more than two decades of overarching Warcraft lore. Players will journey back to the snow-covered northern continent of Northrend, the stage for the iconic Wrath of the Lich King expansion.

According to Kotaku, the familiar continent is set for a massive overhaul. Iconic zones like The Storm Peaks and the ancient titan facility of Ulduar will be rebuilt with modern visuals and dynamic flying mechanics in mind, depicting the aftermath of the Pantheon titans’ awakening.

Blizzard will share further specifics on class changes, the new raid arriving in the Eclipse patch, and the Northrend revamp during dedicated panels throughout BlizzCon 2026.
