Blizzard Entertainment officially announced Diablo V during the opening ceremony of BlizzCon 2026. The next mainline entry in the iconic action-RPG franchise will launch in spring 2029. The developers debuted a cinematic teaser trailer, opening a brand-new chapter in the history of the dark fantasy universe.
A Grim Storyline: The Lord of Terror Triumphs
The concept of the fifth installment breaks the series’ traditional canon of humanity’s heroic struggle: Sanctuary has finally fallen, its defenders have lost, and Diablo celebrates his triumph. According to the official announcement on Blizzard News, the story will focus on the survival of humanity’s remnants in a world where demons have already enslaved the mortal realm, forcing survivors to balance on the brink of moral decay.
The developers have not yet shown live gameplay. The team promised to share the first details regarding the combat system, new class archetypes, and world generation structure at the dedicated Diablo V: Forging the Next Era panel during the convention.
Ongoing Support for Diablo IV and the Return of Amazons
The early announcement will not mean an end to support for the current mainline entry. According to PC Gamer, both games will co-exist for several years.
In the recap of the BlizzCon opening ceremony, developers confirmed a major content update package for Diablo IV: in 2027, the legendary Amazon class, familiar to series veterans since Diablo II, will return to the game, while seasonal updates will continue to add new bosses and gear.

Diablo V is still about two and a half years away from release. Currently, only the spring 2029 release window has been confirmed; the studio will reveal target platforms and technical details as the project moves into closed alpha testing.
