Grim Nashville and a Singing Jessica Chastain: Netflix Drops First Trailer for Country Thriller Heartland

Netflix has unveiled the debut trailer for its detective thriller Heartland, starring Oscar winner Jessica Chastain. The actress takes on the role of a once-famous country singer who, after two decades in seclusion, is forced to return to the US music capital to search for her niece, who has vanished without a trace. The film’s global premiere on the platform is set for November 13, 2026.

The story centers on Misty Jones, a faded stage legend living a secluded life far from the spotlight. Her quiet routine falls apart after the sudden disappearance of her 22-year-old niece, Charlie Hart, who is making her first successful steps in the music industry.

In the trailer released for the film, Misty launches her own investigation, which quickly leads her into the dark underbelly of Tennessee’s glittering show business. The list of suspects is long: the young woman’s boyfriend, her producers and her former patrons all come under scrutiny. Instead of quiet questioning, viewers can expect bar fights on the roadside, chases and a forced plunge into painful family secrets — the very secrets that once drove Misty out of town.

Neo-noir in the American South and a Singer’s Acting Debut

Shana Feste directed and wrote the film, and this is not her first time working with a similar setting: in 2010 she directed the drama Country Strong. This time, however, she decided to blend the atmosphere of country music with classic film noir and a hard-edged detective story, Collider reports.

The project’s cast has assembled a notable ensemble: Chastain is joined by Garrett Hedlund, Ross Lynch, John Hawkes, Paul Sparks and Jennifer Nettles. The role of the missing Charlie went to popular country artist Carter Faith — the film marks her debut in major cinema.

Live Vocals and an Original Soundtrack

Music in Heartland is not just background — it drives the plot, Netflix Tudum notes. Jessica Chastain personally recorded all of her character’s vocal parts, including the title duet with Grammy winner Jennifer Nettles. Carter Faith also prepared several original songs for the film, and the soundtrack as a whole was rounded out by tracks from Margo Price and Carly Pearce.

The film runs 1 hour 52 minutes. The release is aimed at fans of dark Southern thrillers, in which a tense investigative mystery is paired with a deep psychological drama about the price of creative success.
